Welcome to the Special Interest Group of Financial Data Mining (FDM-SIG)! The FDM-SIG is currently hosted by the Financial Data Mining Group at the Data Sciences and Knowledge Discovery Research Lab, Centre for Quantum Computation and Intelligent Systems, University of Technology Sydney, Australia. FDM-SIG is a upgrade of the previous Special Interest Group of Market Surveillance (MS-SIG), founded by Prof Longbing Cao.

Motivation of establishing FDM-SIG

To our knowledge, limited research and development has been undertaken on innovation of real-life market trading and surveillance driven by advanced data mining and machine learning. The engagement in the real-world exercises tells us the increasing needs of analytical market surveillance and informative automated trading. There are also many open issues in the financial markets, such as cross-market surveillance and behavior pattern analysis by involving market microstructure theory. The FDM-SIG aims to encourage novel thinking, activities and techniques for strengthening and promoting the research and development of analytics-driven smart trading and smart market surveillance by engaging data mining, machine learning and artificial intelligence.

Objectives

The FDM-SIG aims to be a global forum and knowledge portal to promote and encourage high quality and workable research and development on trading and market surveillance support technology. We focus on developing creative and practical analytical technology for trading and market surveillance in capital markets. Our preliminary focus is on capital markets, while general knowledge in other specific domains such as Electricity Market Surveillance, health insurance, banking, accounting, auditing etc. is also in our interest scope.
